Colors of My Walls & Carpets

Assalamu alaikum wr wb

I have not posted here in ages because I have been busy with the children, and living here in Amman, Jordan.

In less than two weeks, I'll be moving into a new apartment in where I will have to decide right this week, actually going in a day or two the colors for my walls and the colors for my carpets.

Now, I picked out a few colors here and there for both of them. However, my husband has other plans or other colors in mind. For example, he wanted a grey color for the walls and carpet telling me it looks sophiscated. I think gray just looks dull. I don't like gray carpets nor gray walls. No offense, to anyone that has that in their homes, but, to me gray just sounds *Blech*

A friend of mine even agreed that gray would look like a hospital or a mental institution, which I said perfect place for where my hubby would want to dwell in if he got to pick this color. But, this is our home, and since I'll be living in it more than he will because he'll be at work.

He practically lives at work too, so having it in his colors what for? It should be comfy to me since I'll be here most of the time with the children and myself. Yes, I'll be entertaining tons of sisters in the area and I think most of them would agree that my colors are nice too.

He should just give it a chance, I'm really not that bad with colors so I really don't know why he seems to think that way. Alhamdulillah, I do know I shouldn't really complain because there has been worse cases in where people don't really have a choice at all. It's my "final say" and that's it. At least, he's not necessarily saying, "It's my final say, my final decision, not your choice but, mine."

But, still I want to be able to pick my own colors since I'll be here for quite a few years.

So, I thought about my room with a nice medium-light lavender/lilac color. I'm sorry, but, I really love that color. For the longest time I have loved that color and I'm never sick of that color. I think that color on my walls would go nicely.

My hubby disagrees, especially if it's for "our room" he says. I said, "ok not our room than perhaps the ladies salon." He disagreed, I said "ok. How about the kitchen?" He disagreed again and said the kitchen and bathroom had tiles so you didn't need color in there. Am I suppose to pick the broom closet as a place for me to pick my own colors for the walls and carpet? So, this tiny little room where if I were to stretch, really stretch my arms out wide I could be touching both sides this is where I'm suppose to get to pick my own colors? That doesn't seem right or fair at all. So, my room or our room it is. :D

It's not like I picked a bad color, it's a nice flowery, scented color for the walls. It'll add a nice brightness to the room. I picked a nice pistachio light green for the carpet. I'll even pick an ivory black one if he disagrees as both go really nice with the lilac. But, I think he wanted me to go for the beige, a medium beige or a gold with that. I told him that those didn't go well at all.

I even went on this one site called http://www.shawfloors.com and here it showed me a range of carpet styles and colors and I could also do one of where it would show how it would look in the room, and you could pick colors of the walls to match it accordingly.

I think the color I picked for "our room" will look nice. It just needs a chance. It'll work and eventually in the end he'll see that I'm right. He should realize that by now after 10 years of marriage that I'm almost always right. Even all his friends will comment to him on something and he'll agree even though that was my opinion and he says it sounded better from his friend than from me. *rolls eyes*

As for the boys room, I decided on a light blue for the walls and a dark green for the carpet. Or even going with 2 walls of the light blue color and 2 walls of the light green color and a dark green carpet. My boys want to use the blue for the top of the walls going all the way around for the sky color, and use the bottom half including the carpet for the green for the grass. They want to hang little balls from the ceiling as their planets, and put some cotton on the walls for clouds and hang a sun picture and a moon picture. I told them their glow in the dark stickers could work really nice on the ceiling.

My hubby thinks these colors will just make the room look like a "fun clown house" and he wanted to go with a more entertaining look. I told him, these are the children's room, if you go with an entertaining look rather than a look that they're pleased with. They won't really look forward to being in their rooms or sleeping. They won't enjoy their time here, rather they'll look forward to returning back as quickly as possible because their opinions don't matter.

Besides, why should their room look entertaining anways? It's a kids room. Who are you going to entertain in there other than other children? Other children won't find the gray or beige colors as "fun" colors. Not to mention the mess they'd make and beige and gray you would definitely see it.

Now, there's my daughter's Daliyah's room and it'll also be used as a guest room for overnight guests to stay in. This room will be a light-medium pink walls color and a dark pink carpet. Again, he disagrees saying another color would be better. I think going with a medium dark color for the carpets, especially in the kids room is better, less messier than a light color.

I know, he looks at his friends places, the ones that have no children and say, "Check theirs out it's nice." But, remember because they have no children they go with colors that will go according to them. Sure, they can pick nice light colors and pick furniture that will go with them. But, glass tables, and dining tables and coffee tables with glass in them don't work well with children at all. It does not matter if you don't allow your children in certain rooms where these items are, accidents happen and it's better to be safe than sorry.

Now the ladies salon and men's salon have already been picked and we've pretty much AGREED on the colors of the walls and the carpets in there. That is pretty much surprising too. But, we're going according with what the carpets and our floor sofas are matching with.

I do want to add additional items to the house to make it more homely and more comfy to me. I have a picture in my mind as to how I want things to look, and where I want things to go and organize it. It's all in my head. I just have to take the steps into getting it done and insha'Allah hopefully it'll look as good as in my head as it is in real life.

If anyone has any suggestions or comments I would appreciate it. Please be kind though, the last time I really blogged. That is, when I really blogged I got a lot of unkind comments that made me feel that I really couldn't post much on my blog without people pointing fingers and giving me stern looks.

Yes, I have issues but people have issues, this is why we feel better when we vent and rant and especially writing down here it's all out and not bottled up inside causing more stress which is not healthy at all.

Alhamdulillah, I'll try to post as often as I can. I don't know if I'll be able to be as active as my other blogging friends. But, we'll see insha'Allah and only time will tell.

On a note to end this entry I'll leave it at, if any sisters in Amman want to help me with organizing, unpacking and watching the kids feel free to contact me. :) I'll be more than happy to accept your gracious offer. Now, I just need to figure out where I'm going to get 20-30 really big boxes for me to put my things into.

Someone suggested I should just put them into plastic bags and garbage bags and carry them back and forth. Ok, I know it's only a 5 min walk away and only a 1-2 min drive away. But, who has all that energy to go back and forth with heavy plastic bags? I rather get the mini truck to load all our things. But, I don't want to do it all in one day. I want to space it out within these two weeks and move the things that I'm not using right now there now. And, all the things that I'm using to get there eventually when I get there.

So, my kids aren't going to read all their books on their bookshelf right now. They'll read a few here and there, so to go with their favorite books and putting that aside and taking the rest to the new place would be better. Same for the children's toys and my things. Just putting them aside at the new place and then at the final end moving the rest of them will be less stressful.

With my sinusitis (severe headaches) and allergy, and asthma attacks these past 3 months I think I want to try to take it easy as much as possible. But, also move before the cold hits in.

:) JazakuAllahkhairun for reading. So all comments are appreciated.
